Day 6

With both of us working hard we finally achieved the long sought goal of an early start. This didn't stop us from having a conversation with a fellow motobike traveler camped a couple tents up from us. She was headed to Perth too and was travelling back from Alice Springs after taking part in the Black Dog bike ride to raise awareness for depression.

We stopped for a quick shop in Ceduna. I don't tho.k I liked Ithe look of Ceduna much and am glad we stopped a Streacky Bay.

Lunch was at the Nundroo Road house and was a bit of an experience. When we said we wanted to order some lunch the chef was a little cranky with us for not eating the food from the bain marie, that was until Amelia ordered the Nundroo Burger when he brightened up with a "ooh, I like making those." We were joined for lunch, on occassions, by a giant St Bernard and an incredibly playful cat.

Next stop was the Nullabor.

We stopped for a while at the Head of Night centre and spent some time watching the mother and baby whales. This was a lovely thing to do and well worth it. The wales are right in close to shore and you can see really clearly as the young ones play around their mothers and the was the mothers lift their great tails into the wind.

We rode on, and after buying petrol and beer at the Nullabor Roadhouse, we went in search of our camp for the night.

Our campsite turned to be a fantastic spot right by the sea cliffs, unfortunately the weather wasn't as fantastic. A strong, cold, southerly with occasional rain. After 20 minutes of mucking around trying to get Amelia's tent up we decided that one tent was enough to worry about and went about finding rocks to pile on the tent pegs and using ocky straps between

the tent and the bikes to keep the tent from blowing away. Still in our bike gear to keep warm and dry we cooked dinner over a few beers while our camp stoves struggled with the elements. Even through the broken cloud cover the stars and moon shone brightly enough to see pretty clearly and to leave a shadow.
