The riding today was through vast fields of green or bright yellow canola. This was interspersed with occasional patches of the natural landscape which slowly changed from Mallee to salt bush. On the horizon we could see the Flinders Ranges gradually coming closer.
About mid morning the clouds started packing in, crowding out the sub and blue sky we had been riding under and dropping the temperature. It soon started to rain. This slowed us down a little bit but all our wet weather gear worked and we stayed dry and warm pretty much.
The highlight of the day wad crossing the Flinders Ranges at Horrick's Pass. The clouds had broken up a bit and brightness of the sun and blue of the sky and green of the hills seemed to be intensified after the greyness of being under the rain clouds. The road was a very windy and was a lot of fun, although we had to take it pretty gently as the roads were still wet.
Down out of the mountains we were on the road to Port Augusta with setting sun picking up the range on our right making a luminous green.
Dodging massive dirty trucks we rode straight through Port Augusta, stopping only for petrol, and finally pulled up for the day at a motel in Whyalla. Apparently Port Augusta and Whyalla had had massive storms with lots rain and wind, so we were lucky we missed all that.
